| HOMMAGE À GRAUD MAÎTRE TRÂN TRIÊU QUÂN Aujourd’hui mon cœur balance entre plusieurs sentiments; la joie d'avoir cotoyé un grand homme, la fierté d'avoir mon club et de transmettre ma passion du Taekwon-do qui m'a été tranmise et la tristesse d’avoir perdu un grand homme, celui qui nous a appris plus que donner des coups de pieds et des coups de poings, mais une philosophie, un mode de vie - GM Trân Triêu Quân. Si le Taekwon-do est présent dans notre Capitale Nationnale , c’est bien grâce à GM Trân qui en 1970 a ouvert une école de Taekwon-do à Ste-Foy, Québec. GM Trân s’amusait souvent à nous conter cette anecdote : À ses débuts, quand il avait fait la promotion de son club de Taekwon-do, un journaliste l’avait contacté et lui avait demandé si c’était un nouveau restaurant chinois qui ouvrait ses portes. Il lui expliqua la différence entre la Taekwon-do et le Karaté et son club devint vite très populaire (800 membres) et toute la ville de Québec ne parlait que du club Taekwon-do et des nombreux champions formés par GM Trân. La pratique par les enfants au Taekwon-do, la francisation des termes coréens, le site web en français de notre fédération, le développement des régions et le désir d’apprendre et se surpasser en participant à diverses compétitions et séminaires sont des réalisations et défis que nous devons à celui qui avait fait du Québec et plus particulièrement la ville de Québec, sa terre d’accueil. On peut appeler çà son destin, son karma ou son DO mais cette fin est inexplicable M. Quân, 15 minutes du pire tremblement de terre de l’histoire et vous étiez là… je pourrais ironiquement dire que ce drame est à la grandeur de votre personne et qu’aujourd’hui vous avez contribué encore une fois à ce que toute la famille ITF se réunisse et vous rendre un dernier hommage en accomplissant ce que vous aimiez le plus faire au monde – donner des coups de pieds – votre Taekwon-do ITF. Selon la philosophie Bouddhiste, la mort est un processus naturel qui fait partie de la vie et la mort n’est qu’un changement d’enveloppe corporelle. Dans ces conditions, mourir ne signifie pas cesser d’exister. Vous serez toujours parmi nous GM Trân, nous vous serons reconnaissant à tout jamais d’avoir introduit dans notre vie le Taekwon-do et nous continuerons de mettre en pratique votre enseignement selon votre passion et les valeurs du Taekwon-do ITF. | We've met (Master Vanberghen and myself) GM Tran for the first time during the EC 2003 in Croatia, talking with him for a long time. As French speaking Canadian he was happy to be able to speak in French to some Belgians. Two weeks later he phoned us at home, on a Monday evening. He was in Brussels, he was staying there with a good friend, and he invited us for dinner. So we drove to Uccle and had a long talk with him again. Some weeks later he was elected as President of the ITF in Poland, during the WC. In 2004 he came to Belgium again, for the IIC. During the years we met him several times, during IIC, during European and World Championships, during Congress Meetings,.... He always took the time to talk, to sit and eat together, to ask things. | J'ai eu la chance de travailler étroitement avec GM Trân lors du Championnat du Monde de Taekwon-Do à Québec en 2007. J'étais responsable du site internet du Championnat et je devais publier les résultats des compétitions. Je suis aussi une amie de son fils Nicolas. Je me souviens qu'il était souvent endormi sur le divan du salon devant un film à la télé et nous passions en silence devant lui pour aller rejoindre Nicolas au sous-sol. J'ai aussi fait du Taekwon-Do pendant un temps et GM Tran était toujours là pour nous faire passer nos examens et il est déjà venu à quelques reprises dans nos cours pour nous aider à nous perfectionner. This session was the first IIC i'd been to, and i learnt so much..not only tkd techniques, but the best bit was Grandmaster Trans talk on the DO. it was inspiring, and i now make this a big part of my classes. | Grandmaster Tran was a visionary who realized that Taekwon-Do (an Art, a sport, and a way of life) could also be used as a “Tool for Social Development”. He felt that society as a whole could be positively influenced through the practice of Taekwon-Do and that one way to establish this positive influence was through further development of the “Do” in Taekwon-Do. Grandmaster Tran once wrote, “By practicing ITF TKD and living in accordance with its fundamental values, we will become good citizens and be able to help build a better world.” Grandmaster Tran was always trying to find ways to further develop and promote ITF Taekwon-Do and he used his exceptional communication and organizational skills to accomplish these goals. One only has to read Grandmaster Tran’s “president messages” from 2003-2009 (www.tkd-itf.org) to get an understanding of his creativity, character, and commitment to developing ITF Taekwon-Do. His leadership and friendship will be greatly missed. | Although I had heard of Grandmaster Trân following the ITF split after General Choi's passing, I had little interest in TKD politics so didnt pay it much mind until last year! I have never met Grandmaster Trân, nor have I ever had the privilige to train under him, but I have an insight or view on him that I feel I should share. Last year, a few issues after TotallyTKD magazine was released I recieved an email from Grandmaster Trân pledging his support for the magazine - for some this may not seem like a big thing, but considering the political world of TKD, and moreso the ITFs, I saw it as a big step - this was a man not scared to make great steps forwards - afterall he has trod where none of the other ITF leaders bothered - he saw the bigger picture, as despite being the head of one of the big, all powerful ITF's, he contacted me a non-ITF member and offered his support. Through our email correspondance, I realised that his vision for Taekwon-Do was not just to ensure 'his' ITF was the best, or most well run or whatever, but he truely loved Taekwon-Do and that was even more powerful that his position in the ITF. When I heard he was in Haiti following the distaster I was shocked and saddened and hoped/prayed for his safe return - sadly, a week or two later those wishes went unheard. Its weird, because I don't really know the man, except for the emails we shared, but his death has hit me as if he was a close friend of mine and over the last few days I have been wondering why has it hit me like it has and I realsied, that through his private emails, not only had I come to respect him, but I realised that he was the future of the ITF - not 3 ITFs but the one man who was probibly capable of unity, not just of ITF, but of many TKD people around the world, as where others were not interested in going, he did - his articles spoke volumes when others wrote nothing, he was a man on a mission, not a pay cheque! I learnt more about Grandmaster Trân up to and following his sad end, and the pieces fitted into place - he didnt get to his position in the ITF due to bloodlines or politics, but was voted in by the people, despite his past, which he turned around. - BTW - that isnt meant as a sign of disrespect to the other ITF leaders, just that I mean he had no ankors, except the man he was! Through his correspondance to me, I truely belive that 'HE' was the one person capable and willing to UNITE ITF Taekwon-Do, and I hope that ITF-V follow his lead and continue with the same cause. Looking back at his life story, it seems Taekwon-Do changed his life, in return he changed others lives, but sadly, like all good men, his life ended tragically and all too soon, but I hope the other ITF leaders and masters now see Grandmaster Trân for the person he was and are inspired by him... because I am, but I do not hold the same power of openess and unity that others do. Either way, the death of Grandmaster Trân has affected me greatly, more than I could of ever imagined and like many others, I am now in mourning and cannot stop to think of how things would have continued to changed with him as ITF President. | It is with a most heavy heart that I write this message. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and loved ones of Grandmaster Tran, as well as all Taekwon-Do students around the globe. Taekwon-Do and the world is indeed better today because of God sharing Grandmaster Tran with us for all long as He did. While I know he will be missed I am comforted by the fact that he is at rest now and no longer suffering. I have known Grandmaster Tran since 1985. He was a friend, mentor and wonderful example of a true Taekwon-Do grandmaster, contributing much to our beloved Art. He led a life that we can look to as an example of what to emulate. One who strived hard and despite the many set backs and personal tragedies he suffered, he perservered, the way a good Taekwon-Do student should always. He suffered from being railroaded and imprisoned in a communist jail. I was proud to have known him and to have helped him recover his good name from that ordeal. May we always remember him and the examples he showed us. God bless Grandmaster Tran and the Tran family. Please know you are not alone in your time of mourning | |
