iTKD Umpires ‘B’ Course - Auckland

Dress:  Umpire suit both days
Organiser: Mr Gwyn Brown

To attain the iTKD B grade umpires qualification you will need to attend both days and pass the theory and practical exams. The course is open to all 1st Dans and higher that already hold a C grade qualification, or higher.

The B Refresher Course.
If you are already a qualified B grade umpire, either ITF (the course run by the ITF Umpire Committee etc), or iTKD (the course run by TAG in NZ), you can attend the refresher course, which means you just attend the first day of the B course, not the second. You will still get the theory exam and spend the day going over the finer details of umpiring, but you will not be assessed practically on the second day at the under 18 tournament.

Full Course Outline
The Full B Umpires course is an intense two day course that covers the finer aspects of being an umpire. We will cover all roles in detail and test you theoretically and practically. The first day will be spent in the classroom with some practical work while the second day we will be running one of the rings at the under 18, plus the power and specialty rings. You will be expected to perform most of the umpiring roles and will be assessed in those roles.

Cost:   Full course $100, Refresher $60

Bookings are limited and full payment is to be made to the iTKD Bank Account.

Midlands Kids As part of the Midlands Officials course, we would like to invite beginner and inexperienced students to a friendly and fun MiniKids Tournament. You don’t have to register and there are no entry fees either, just turn up on the day and we will match you up with someone similar in size and experience to compete with. This is your opportunity to learn all about tournament etiquette and to have a go in a very low key environment. You will be coached by some very experienced seniors and get loads of free advice. The matches are stop and start for points and you can have as many goes as you like! You will need to bring all your sparring gear, or borrow some for the day. Those that are a little more experienced, or even Adult beginners, you are also most welcome. We will put you in the ring with someone of your own capabilities so you can ‘push’ our new officials who will be practicing on you. The date and venue is above. The mini tournament starts at 1pm

Abbey (12), was supporting breast cancer and out of 40 umpires, was an outstanding beginner referee at the course, - she has great potential.

This is primarily a course for beginners, but all are welcome, especially experienced officials to share their knowledge. We will be focusing on the sparring aspect of being an official, but will cover the other areas briefly. Parents of students are most welcome to attend and qualify themselves, you don’t have to be a practising student!

Start time is 8.30am sharp at Silla Do Jung.

After the course at 12pm we will move to a mini kids tournament for the remainder of the afternoon which is also a Midlands Regional Training Session. Our coach Mr Black will be there to give you direction. This tournament is for beginners mainly, so they can experience sparring in a no pressure environment. But we will be doing some full-on experienced sparring with senior blues and reds so I can see who has potential as a centre referee.

We will be starting and stopping matches to give advice to newbie referees, judges and jurors during the bouts, while Mr Black and other experienced Midlands seniors also advise competitors. More details about the mini kids event will be out soon.

Each person attending will need to:

  • Print off a copy of the latest ITFNZ tournament rules and be familiar with them.
  • Bring warm clothing, pen and paper, lunch, and your Do Bok.
  • It is not necessary to be in official gear if you don’t have it, but you will be dressed correctly which means once the tournament starts it’s official gear or your Do Bok.
  • Qualifications will be awarded on performance and can be upgraded at our upcoming regionals etc

The mini kids tournament is the best opportunity you will have to put your morning theory into real afternoon event practise in a controlled learning environment.
