Kids Camp 20108th National Kids Camp 2010

19-21 November 2010

Thank you to all those that made this year’s camp again such a wonderful experience for Mr Skedgwell and myself.

It wouldn’t be Kids Camp without the rain, and this year didn’t disappoint, although the rain wasn’t all weekend long and didn’t really make any real difference, after all it happens every year!

Thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers, Mrs Iotua, Mrs Kendall, Mrs Cale in particular, and all the rest of you for always putting your mugs of coffee down to come and spend time holding pads, getting fingers kicked, putting plasters on toes, hands, elbows, and many other places, and taking care of all the chocolate and sugar filled children when they crashed and burned.

Thank you to our older students that gave up their weekend to help and teach; to James who was always just where I needed him and seemed to be doing things almost before they needed doing.  Darius who became famous as Luke’s crash test dummy when demonstrating kicks and never left the hall when the children were learning. And especially to Miss Kara Timmer, who I have watched grow into a fantastic example of everything that TKD represents. This year she left the children on the floor where she has spent the last 5 years sitting and joined the instructors team, forgetting that to have that honour means eating all the fear factor food. Sorry I made you cry…not really!

Thank you to our super cool and super human instructors; Miss Lianna McCartney who despite repeated attempts refused to stop calling me sir all weekend, Mr Grant Eccles whose own children don’t know he is the tournaments director, Mr Ross Black who is giving back to the organisation all the cool stuff he has learnt in many world champ teams, Mr Luke ‘cast iron stomach’ Thompson who took it as his personal mission to sample all the kids awesome baking skills…twice, and my co-instructor Mr Shaun Skedgwell who did all the leg work, ordered all the food and boards and many other nameless needed things, and taught all weekend long with little rest, and also managed to be talked into dressing up as a gorilla, hiding out in the bush with a banana and alarming more than a few parents and children on the way into camp.

Finally to all the children who attended. You are the real stars of the Kids Camp, I don’t think we have ever had a better group of enthusiastic, well mannered and talented kids. I would love to single you all out and write something awesome on each of you, but it will have to suffice to say: Practise your speed TKD, your jumping, sparring and especially your breaking, go the instructors team, and see you all again next year!

Kids…

Remember we have two contests at the Kids Camp, one for your baking and one for your costume. Some younger aged people, myself and Mr Skedgwell included, take these contests very seriously. We already have our costumes all sorted. It’s a pity we can’t enter the baking contest either!

Parents, again we say to you there are only 20 beds at the camp for adults, so we would really appreciate it if you didn’t come! Seriously though, just one parent per family max please. I know you like to clean toilets, cook for the masses and have fingers kicked to pieces...not to mention those of you with a penchant for making train noises at night. But we always run out of beds for adults and it always rains! So if you are thinking should I go or not…it’s ok, take a break, have a weekend of peace and quiet on us, that’s our job!

See you all at the camp in 8 weeks!

Hi kids!

Well here we are, another year has flown by and the National Juniors Camp is upon us all…again!

If you have been keeping up to date with the calendar on the new website, you will know:

National Juniors Camp, Friday the 19th November to Sunday the 21st November

Entry forms will be available here on the site on the 20th September. Last year we had our biggest camp ever and the camp was nearly full in a very short time (within 3 weeks of entry forms published), so be quick this year!

Featuring at this year’s camp:

  • Our world famous cake baking contest, with prizes galore!
  • Our world famous beat the instructors fear factor food eating contest! Last year, the Instructors team didn’t do so well, but this year, we are keen for revenge!
  • Prizes for the best costume…by the way, what is this year’s costume theme?
  • Kids Camp on Safari!

Yes, this year we are going jungle. So get to work on your costume. You can come as anything related to the jungle; Lions, tigers, gorillas, Tarzan…anything at all!
