Who can attend? Blue belts and above, all ages. Individuals below blue belt who regularly assist with instructing can attend with their instructor's permission. Open to all Instructors & Assistant Instructors. Others that are not Instructors may also be permitted to attend if space is available. This is a short course designed for those Instructors who were unable to attend an Update course in the past two years. Open 4th degree black belts and above, Instructors or non-Instructors.
Prerequisite Must be a blue belt or higher (see above) Should be a current Instructor or Assistant Instructor (plus lower grades that are currently assisting or are potential Instructors may attend with special permission) Must be a current Instructor. Open only to 4th degree black belts and above.
Course Content This course is designed to help get you started in instructing or assiting with instructing.

It provides tips on:
Your role as an instructor in meeting the needs of your students, being inclusive and fair, communication, conducting a lesson and planning
This course is mainly practical with emphasis on providing technical updates and practice of the syllabus. This course is mainly practical with emphasis on providing technical updates and practice of the techniques syllabus. Will also include practical assessment of instructing skills. This course is a mix of technical training, discussions and socialising between our senior members. It also involved brainstorming sessions and planning for the future.
Course Duration From 2020 the the theory part of the course must be completed On-line, then the practical part with Mr Lowe as a Training Course. Full Day A two hour course on a day suitable to both the instructor(2) and the facilitator. Weekend
Course Facilitator Mr Mike Lowe - or member of the Technical Advisor Group where appropriate. Master Paul McPhail - Technical Advisor or another member of the Technical Advisor Group as and where appropriate. Any one of the Instructor Development Officers (IDO) Master Paul McPhail and Master Davidson.
How often is this qualification renewed? This course is required to be completed once only You are required to attend this course (or other qualifying course) every 2 years to ensure your Instructors' Certificate remains current. - This course can be used to update the Instructors' Certificate (2 yearly).
Qualification/ Certification This course is a required qualification for grading to 1st dan and/or becoming recognised as an Instructor or Assistant Instructor, and before an Instructor can open their own school. Instructors' Certificate remains current. An International Instructors' Course (IIC) is also accepted as an equivalent course and can be used to update the Instructors' Certificate. This course will extend your Instructors' Certificate until the next available Update Course. Instructors' Certificate remains current (2 yearly).
Is the attendee qualified to start a school? Yes, as long as all the other criteria for opening and operating a school have been met and approved by the Technical Advisor. N/A N/A N/A

$75 for individual, plus the Instructor is responsible to cover all costs of the course. Normally a package of around $150 including food and accommodation.
